People tend to challenge reality with imaginations in order to create a world that is beyond definitions.
Isaji Yugo is an artist who challenges this world with his imagination. During his residency at Stock20, Isaji finds new materials, such as pens, stables, and shampoo bottles to be his inspirations. Through researching on these original materials and developing various transforming processes – heating, expanding, stacking, assembling, cutting, and tearing – the objects that we once familiar with have been reshaped. Pens have turned into tails that are attached with balloons. Tiny stables smaller than 1cm are stacked into triangular sculptures. If we trace back to the artist’s initial inventiveness, which is not pure imaginations, we may find that the transformations come from his observation about details in our everyday surrounding and are the fulfillment of his fantasies. The ordinaries can thus transfigure anytime, anywhere.
Isaji’s attentively thinks about how items actually have different acknowledgments in different regions and he highlights the variation of the everydayness via his delicate art making. In this exhibition, you shall find conversations between original materials and artworks that are re-produced by the artist. The Art Platform is therefore re-constructed and turns into a white, narrow space where “objects are no longer objects”.
It is time for those once are everydayness begin to transform.
